Q. Can anyone join?
A. Anyone with an interest in carving may join. For safety, children under the age of 14 are required to be under direct supervision of parents at meetings and workshops.
Q. Do you have to know something about carving to belong to the club?
A. No, we have many capable members who share their ideas and provide instruction for beginners as well as for the more experienced carver.
Q. How much can I expect to spend learning to carve?
A. As little or as much as you want. Many carvers have a single pocket knife and a few inexpensive pieces of wood. The list of available tools is long, so you can set your own limits. Consult with people with experience in the club. Carvers love to discuss tools and techniques for the best results.
Q. Where do I get the wood to carve?
A. Another favorite topic of seasoned wood carvers! Wood may be obtained from other carvers, the local lumber yard, specialty wood suppliers or even from the scrap pile. Many carvers use ’found wood’ like driftwood that can be picked up on a trip to the lake. However, most carvers prefer basswood and the best source for small amounts are other carvers.
