From the editor: following is a note from a friend of OCWC, past member Bill Dengler.  Bill has generously sent us a book for our library collection, on Totem Poles.  Bill and his wife Sandy now live in Port Townsend, WA.  You can email Bill at: bill_dengler@hotmail.com.  The book will be delivered to our Librarian at the next general meeting.  On behalf of OCWC, thank you Bill.

Here is Bill’s note:

“The Tribe has poles all over the place, in front of their tribal buildings and the 7-Cedars Casino, so named because there are seven poles out front.  Three of them are included in the pictures.  More can be seen in the book I am sending for the library.  The inside of the casino is practically a native art gallery in itself with the architecture including many more poles, screens, etc.  Sandy and I aren't much for gambling - I'd rather spend my money on carving tools! - but we stop there occasionally for supper (great buffet) and to gawk at the carvings.  The poles they are carving now will go in front of their new convenience store/gas station that is under construction.  Even that architecture is in the old house style of the tribe. “

We are invited to have a carve in and demo at the

Shawnee Santa Fe Depot
on April 26th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. All are welcome. Several members have items on display.

The Auction was very successful.  We had 30 people take numbers for bidding.  We had $557 in sales which I think makes it a very good Auction.  And the money is in the bank.
